How many steps is 2 km?

About 2,800 for an adult 170 cm (5 ft 7 in) tall. A walking step is roughly 41% of your height, about 0.70 m at 170 cm, so two kilometres takes 2,800 of them. Someone 150 cm tall takes about 3,200, and someone 195 cm about 2,500. Two kilometres is 1.24 miles, about 24 minutes at a normal pace.

Is 2 km a day enough?

It is a start, not the whole day. Two kilometres is about 41% of a 7,000-step day, and the 2025 review of daily steps in The Lancet Public Health found most outcomes levelling off between 5,000 and 7,000 steps. The rest of an ordinary day has to supply the remainder. How many steps a day is good has the research in full.

Two kilometres a day, for a year

It adds up faster than it feels. Two kilometres every day for a year is 730 km and, for an adult of average height, just over a million steps. That is nearly the whole Camino de Santiago, which reTrek measures at 784 km from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela.

The same 2 km, counted toward somewhere

reTrek turns that arithmetic into a journey. Pick a route and the 2 km you walk each day become distance on a real trail: the Camino in a little over a year, or Everest Base Camp, which is free, in about a month, with a short film about the place waiting at each milestone. Something to look forward to on a walk that otherwise goes nowhere new.

Or take someone with you: walk the same route with a friend and pool your steps, or race each other to the end.
